Every school has important fixed points in its academic year, few more so than the annual September intake of new students.  This week we admitted our new eleven year olds into Year 7 and Post-16 students, many from our own Year 11 and some from a range of other schools, into Year 12.  As these young people were all being made welcome, last year's senior students began the journey into employment, training or higher education, more than 80% of them to university.

The Year 7s arrived on Monday 3 September clutching under one arm the model, based on an old shoe, they and their families had made as part of the work they had been set to complete during the summer.  These had been converted into racing cars, houses, boats and much else including the Houses of Parliament.  Under their other arm they carried the completed book of subject assignments they and their families had spent so much time working on throughout the holidays to help the students to build a positive work ethic and to demonstrate their resourcefulness and resilience.
