Year 7 students are enjoying a fantastic week at Howtown in the Lake District on their Outward Bound experience. The have been undertaking a wide range of adventurous activities, working together to develop teamworking and leadership skills.

Half of the year group arrived in the Lake District for their week-long adventure on Monday, and the other half will take their place next week. During their visit, students will take part in a good range of outdoor activities which all begin with the “jog and dip” – a half mile jog around the centre culminating in a jump into Ullswater. Traditionally, this signifies a commitment to the course and sets the students off on a full-on week of adventure. As part of the course, students have been climbing, canoeing, gorge scrambling and have had an overnight wild camp in the hills and mountains of the Ullswater valley.

Miss House who is leading the visit has reported back that everyone is having a fantastic time, and the weather has been quite mild too – something which cannot often be said of this time of year!

The students will return to the Academy on Friday to tell of their experiences and the second visit will commence on Monday.
