On Tuesday 24 April, 11 students from Middlesbrough's Macmillan Academy travelled to Hartlepool to receive some very special awards.

All of them have voluntarily given up their free time to work in the Academy’s Information Centre as part of the Student Librarian Trainee Scheme. Working to Mrs Jones and Mrs Burns, they have been a great help to both students and staff.  This year, 8 of the student librarians achieved the Trainee Librarian Award while 3 gained the Advanced Award.  As well as working in the Information Centre, all were required to demonstrate their knowledge of books and expertise in library skills.

Presenting the prizes this year was Carnegie Medal and Hans Andersen Award winning author Aidan Chambers, creator of the book ‘Postcards from No-Man’s Land’.
