On the Tuesday 8th March the academy was proud to welcome Stewart Lythe form the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal. His visit provided students with the opportunity to present a cheque of £1000 donation to the appeal. This money was raised by students, parents and staff when they purchased the ceramic poppies created by students last year to mark the commemoration of those that fell at the battle of Gallipoli.

The poppies had been installed in a flower bed close to the cenotaph in Middlesbrough and a permanent display can be seen in the school's grounds. Mr Lythe was very appreciative of our donation for the poppy appeal. During his visit he learned of the academy's approach to Remembrance Day; he was he was clearly moved with the work that we are doing to raise awareness and he was keen for our students to be involved in future initiatives.
