On 27th January the Macmillan Academy Year 8 girls’ hockey team won the County Tournament. This was the first time that Macmillan has hosted this tournament on its new all-weather artificial pitch.

A total of eight teams entered with three of them being from Macmillan. All the girls played exceptionally well against some very strong sides from Red House, Teesside High and Yarm schools. The A team girls came second in their pool, only being beaten by Yarm School but still progressed to the semi-finals where they secured a clear victory over Red House. They went through to the final to face Yarm again and this time they upped their game and with two outstanding reverse stick flick goals from Alice Kneeshaw. As champions of this tournament, the girls are now through to the next stage. Congratulations to them. Thanks also go to the three Post 16 student helpers who oversaw the smooth running of this event.
