Students from BTEC dance classes in years 10 and 11 have taken part in workshops with second year degree course students from the Teesside University dance degree course.
The students are completing these workshops to fulfil the BTEC course's requirement of incorporating elements of real life in the dance industry. Participating in the workshops enables students to gain an understanding of the further education opportunities available to them in this area and the routes other performers are taking to have a successful career in performance arts.
The BTEC students were treated to a preview of the university students' contemporary dance performance called 'Falling Beyond' which experiments with balance throughout the piece.  They were challenged with contemporary dance techniques and experimented with balance and movement in the workshops which followed and are now working to learn repertoire taken from 'Falling Beyond' to inspire their own pieces.

Contemporary dance is currently the most sought after style of dance in the industry due to its connection to strong concepts and use of dynamic range.  The university students and their instructor were impressed with the year 10 and 11s focus, creativity and excellent technique.  The pieces they create over the coming weeks will be assessed at the end of their two-year course and will be performed at the end of year showcase.
