As part of the national 'change4life' sugar swaps campaign, two tutor groups from Year 7 were treated to a fun smoothie bike workshop, delivered by David from realfoodworks.co.uk.

All tutor groups from years 7 to 11 were asked to create a tutor group smoothie, suitable for the sugar swaps campaign. To be in with a chance of winning the students were asked to draw and label a smoothie, research which nutrients were included and why they were important for our health.

The workshops incorporated healthy eating messages with nutritional information and students enjoyed making smoothies by riding a bike powering a blender and tasting their own competition creations.

Kim Baines from the healthy cooking team at Middlesbrough Environment City came along to judge the two rival smoothies, and the ultimate winner of the sugar swaps competition was...

7TMO, with 'Shipwrecked', a smoothie recipe including coconut milk, unsweetened coconut, mango, apple, berries and banana. Congratulations to 7TMO who will now receive a healthy tutor breakfast.
