For the past 10 years, the Year 13 Business students have successfully undertaken the appeal on behalf of the academy, this year was no exception. The students have worked hard over the last few weeks to collect tins and toys and to raise money for the less fortunate over Christmas. The Salvation Army, using data from local Social Services and other similar organisations who identify families in need, will distribute the donations to the less fortunate.

The worrying part is that the need for food parcels has increased six-fold in the last five years. In our world of plenty and excess, it is something to think about. It needs also to be remembered that the Salvation Army serve the needy all year round. They are truly the most altruistic group of people, whose unselfish concern and care for the welfare of others knows no bounds.

Our students are exposed to this totally unselfish attitude and find the process a very humbling experience. The appeal culminates with the students attending the Citadel to help assemble the food and toy parcels ready for distribution. The Salvation Army acknowledge that without this generosity, families would go hungry over Christmas and children would wake up to nothing on Christmas morning.
