On Thursday 24th April, ten Macmillan Academy students and their parents attended the 15th Annual Student Librarian Awards Ceremony at Sacred Heart School in Redcar.

Four students completed the standard level and five students achieved the advanced level. In addition, Year 13 student Bethany Cunningham received a Special Recognition Award. All our students were presented with their certificates by the popular, and very funny performance poet Craig Bradley - 'That Poetry Bloke.'

The Student Librarian Scheme requires students to volunteer to work in the Library during their morning or lunch time breaks. They are required to complete practical tasks, a set of worksheets, and produce various guides and posters as evidence of the knowledge they have gained. In addition to library skills, students also gain valuable communication, organisational, customer care, team-working, mentoring and information literacy skills. All our students demonstrated their commitment and reliability to the Library and produced work of a very high standard.

The Library will soon be recruiting new student librarians so if you are interested please see Mrs Burns or Mrs Appleton.
