The Year 10 Enterprise group made their visit to James Cook University's Neonatal Unit in order to hand over a hard earned cheque for £693.84. They were given rare and privileged access to the special care baby unit in order to see what happens with the funds they raised. Students were even able to speak to some mothers who were able to give them a perspective of what it's like to nurse and care for a baby who is born prematurely.

This visit marks the end of the most successful smoothie campaign to date. The 'Smoothie Splash' was a project based learning activity that involved real life business skills. Before making their smoothies the Year 10 students first had to gain a Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate in order to be given access to the academy kitchen. They then had to devise and implement a powerful and engaging marketing and promotion campaign, that students presented to each year group in assembly. The students also designed their own business identity and brand and produced posters displayed around the academy. Each student played a pivotal part in making this charitable business a success which sold over 500 cups of smoothies in just 5 weeks.

The visit to the Neonatal Unit has given these students greater impetus to come up with a brand new business idea for next year. One student referred to the visit as, 'humbling and inspiring' and went on to say that the work done by the unit is 'simply miraculous.'
