Public Health England has launched a new 'Smart Swaps' campaign this week. The focus of the campaign is to support families to reduce the intake of sugary drinks and high fat/sugar snacks, by making simple swaps e.g. swapping fizzy drinks for milk, water or still juice or swapping whole milk for semi skimmed in children over two years of age.

Macmillan Academy has been selected to launch the campaign in Middlesbrough in recognition of our consistent approach to improving the health of our students. To launch the campaign Year 7 students produced a smart swap recipe idea, which could be served at break time for all students to purchase. The chosen healthy snack will be served in the dining hall for the whole week beginning 13th January.

The announcement of the campaign nationally has highlighted that many families will be switching from sugary drinks which interestingly was met with hostility by the soft drinks industry which is profit orientated.
