On Thursday 10 October, ICT and Computing students from Key stages 3, 4 and 5 had the opportunity to work together and compete in a national competition entitled D-Day - Digital Day.

The aim of the day was to inform students of the vast array of opportunities available in the UK digital industry, which is growing twice as fast as the economy as a whole.

Students met Bianca Robinson, a local technology entrepreneur and managing director of Calm Digital, a local graphic design agency with clients all over the world including Toyota. She was able to share her experiences of the digital sector and provide inspirational advice to students as they completed the challenges.

Students had to choose one of four mini projects to complete in teams throughout the day.

The challenges included:

  • Coding - Making a new learning game
  • Mobile development - Creating a futuristic APP
  • Social Media - Creating a social media advertisement campaign for a new fashion store
  • Digital Design -- Creating a digital product to aid the local community.
Head of ICT, Mr King, who organised the event, was very pleased with his students' efforts: "This is the second year we have participated in this event. Students were a credit to the academy and produced some truly innovative and exciting new products."
