Macmillan Academy student Sarah Gething started playing Badminton at Guisborough Westgate Club in 1999 when she was 11 years old and now, aged 16, as a member of the Yorkshire County Team, has her sights firmly fixed on representing Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

For the first three years of her training, Sarah’s coach was Andy Baxter.  Now she is with Peter Higman, a former member of the British Olympic team.  Coaching and club membership cost her £1,000 a year as well as associated fees of £5 for each match in which she competes.  She is sponsored by Miller Homes of whom she says, “Without their help I couldn’t have made it this far.  They’re lovely people.”

With her Under-17 doubles partner Andrea Barwick and her Under-21 partner Allison MacBeth, she travels all over the north of England to take part in competitions.
