Macmillan Academy's Art and Design Department has been busy over the past few weeks mounting a new kind of exhibition which has made a big impression since it was opened.

Macmillan Academy's Art and Design Department has been busy over the past few weeks mounting a new kind of exhibition which has made a big impression since it was opened.

Head of Department Ian Lightfoot is always keen to stress to students that creating art is not just for artists who exhibit professionally so all the work in this new show is by teachers and staff at the Academy.  Paintings, drawings, posters, photographs, sculptures and textiles are all represented and the work, as can be seen from our photographs, is of a very high standard and has been well-received by those who have already visited the exhibition.

Middlesbrough has also just witnessed the opening of the town's long-awaited new art gallery - MIMA. Year 11 and Year 12 Fine Art students along with Art teachers from Macmillan were invited to a private viewing of the first exhibition there - 'Draw' and were enthused by both the building and the exhibits.
