On the last day of the summer term in July 2006, all students donated their old CTC blazers prior to returning in the new Macmillan Academy blazer in September. The old blazers were collected by one of our nominated charities, Coco for eventual shipment to needy children in Uganda.

We have now received confirmation that the blazers arrived safely and are now in use in schools in Northern Uganda.

The containers with the 950 blazers arrived in Kampala, the capital of Uganda and were then sent to Northern Uganda to help support schools working with very few resources. There are estimated to be 1.7 million refugees in Northern Uganda and the blazers were distributed around the town of Gulu. In Gulu there are many ‘night commuters’ – children who sleep in churches, schools, hospitals or any safe place.

“I can assure everyone involved that the kindness of the donation will be very much appreciated by all the pupils that received them. It is clear how many challenges the people of Northern Uganda are striving to overcome. Central to their efforts is the continuation of schooling no matter how hard conditions get. May I thank everyone once again on behalf of those in Uganda.”

From Mr Andrew Parker, Scottish International Relief

Gulu is a very remote part of the country and we have asked, when the aid workers next visit the area, for photographs of the blazers in use to be taken.

Thank you to all students who contributed their blazer.
