On Monday 12th November, Amanda Coulson, a Sky Sports Living for Sport Mentor and former GB Boxer visited the Academy to work with students who have been chosen for the project. The focus of her visit was to introduce the six key areas that contribute to sport/life success followed by a practical boxing session that put our students through their paces.

This year's project has five main aims:

  • 1. To improve health and fitness.
  • 2. To improve self confidence.
  • 3. To raise awareness of the benefits of leading a healthy active lifestyle.
  • 4. To develop leadership skills.
  • 5. To encourage lifelong participation in physical activity.

The project will consist of fifteen students completing a five week intensive training programme at Crossfit Teesside with three training sessions scheduled per week. Each session will take place on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday during enrichment time.

Ten students were identified by the PE department who we felt would benefit from completing the training programme. These ten students will be paired up and will then be accompanied by a sports captain to form a team of three. The role of the sports captain will be to mentor and buddy the two students within their team whilst completing the five week training programme.

The project is going to be competitive in nature as teams will compete against each another in a series of workouts throughout the five weeks. A video will be recorded to demonstrate the impact of the project and hopefully this will be used as a tool to encourage other students to get more involved in physical activity.
