On Wednesday 10 October, ICT and Media Studies students from Key stage 4 and 5 had the opportunity to work together and compete in a national competition entitled D-Day - Digital Day.

The aim of the day is to inform students of the vast array of opportunities available in the UK digital industry, which is growing twice as fast as the economy as a whole.

Students met Bianca Robinson, a local technology entrepreneur and managing director of Calm Digital, a local graphic design agency with clients all over the world including Toyota. She was able to share her experiences of the digital sector and provide inspirational advice to students as they completed the challenges.

Students had to choose one of four mini projects to complete in teams throughout the day.

The challenges included:

  • Multimedia - Creating a viral video campaign
  • Mobile development - Creating a futuristic APP
  • Social Media - Creating a social media advertisement campaign for a school Cafe
  • Digital Design - Creating a digital product to aid the local community.

Head of ICT, Mr King, who organised the event, was very pleased with his students' efforts: "The students performed brilliantly on the day. They all had a very tight deadline to meet and with Bianca's help, the quality of the student work was truly excellent."

The day was organised by BIMA, and links to the organisations mentioned can be found below:
