Year 12 students were all involved in 'Ethical Issues day on 13th June, in which they were given the opportunity to choose two sessions from a selection designed to provoke critical debate and encourage discussions on complex subjects.

The main aims of the day were to encourage students to consider the contribution of philosophical debate to understanding beliefs, values and ethics and to evaluate the relationships such as those between science and ethics.

Sessions included some challenging questions such as; 'Is equality achievable?', 'Should we breed genetically modified animals for human organ transplant?','Does Facebook infringe on our human rights?', 'Should elite athletes be allowed to use drugs to enhance performance?' and 'Is the UK bonus culture necessary for the economy?' In debating these issues, students were developing critical thinking and discussion skills as well as synthesising information and working effectively with others.
