Three of the academy's Year 12 students, are part of a team of scouts planning a visit to Ghana.

As part of the 15th Middlesbrough St. Barnabus Scout Group, the three students are going to Jachie in Ghana. This is situated between Kumasi and the popular resort of Lake Bosomtwe.

Ruth and Matthew are going as part of a team to set up three scout groups in an area where there are no groups for 30-40 miles around. It is hoped that this will give children from the ages of 11-18 a place to go, have fun, do activities and learn.

Importantly, these new scout groups will be free, which means that children who can't afford to go to school will have the opportunity to learn.

In addition to setting up the scout groups, Ruth and Matthew will also assist in painting a health centre in Aprinka, which with minimal staffing and resources, will provide basic medical care and midwifery which will save lives in this remote area.

Whilst there, they will be helping in the eye clinic, which is funded by St. Barnabus in Linthorpe. They will be involved with outreach work and assisting with eye tests, taking blood pressure and weighing people.

To achieve this will require funding and Ruth, Tom and Matthew seek support for their venture. Read on to find out more:
