Year 8 students participated in a whole-day Design Technology event to produce a model Olympic stadium.

The event was held on Monday 19th of September, and it contributes to the Key Stage 3 baccalaureate programme. The aim was to produce a model Olympic stadium fit for the 2012 Olympics considering many aspects of construction including location, materials, environment, economy, employment, energy and sustainability.

All students worked extremely hard throughout the day and combined a variety of skills and knowledge in true collaboration to produce a product outcome. Cross curricular themes were also evident throughout from economic considerations of costs and income to calculations of dimensions and purchasing, through to a range of practical hand skills culminating in a verbal presentation to an audience.

Each tutor group elected a class winner to enter the grand finale judged by senior management and HOY 8. The overall winner was a combined effort by 8JBE and 8KSM led by Miss S Thomson with 'Infinity Stadium' being judged the most effective model and confident presentation. Winning students were Mia Bell, Rachel Harding, Sarah Sheikh, Francesca Priddy and Grace Lilley.

Well done to Year 8 for an outstanding performance throughout the day!
