This term, a group of brilliant Year 10 students had the exciting opportunity to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Students worked together to create and direct their own performance of the opening brawl scene of Romeo and Juliet, this included adding their own stage directions and soliloquies to bring the scene to life.
Their hard work concluded with an event at Archibald Primary School for the annual Playmaking Festival, where they performed along with 4 other local schools. They took part in a 'promenade theatre' performance, which meant that the audience travelled around the school to see the story gradually unfold and come to life.
This opportunity allowed students to build on their understanding of Romeo and Juliet, and also discover how actors and directors collaboratively work together to create an improvised piece of theatre. Working with an RSC director empowered students to approach a Shakespearean text in the same way that actors do.
We are extremely proud of the hard work and creative ideas that our students brought to their performance. They worked fantastically together, and should be proud of themselves!
