Year 9 students have been enjoying learning about the literature and culture of ancient Greece and Rome in a new Classics enrichment. Through an engaging and interactive study of a range of myths and legends, students have been exploring artwork and ancient literary texts whilst considering the long-lasting impact of classical works in literature and media from the Elizabethan period to the present day, identifying references to classical ideas in Shakespearean extracts, clips from The Simpsons and in the song lyrics of Taylor Swift, to name but a few examples! Through this enrichment, students have the opportunity to build their cultural knowledge and be empowered to offer more sophisticated and developed interpretations of texts studied in English Language and Literature in Years 10 and 11.
