Macmillan Academy vs. Hartlepool FE

Macmillan Academy travelled to Hartlepool Rovers to play their first game in 5 weeks with a fairly depleted team. However the response from the players was outstanding in a convincing victory. A particularly strong contribution from Year 12s, Liam Davies, Josh Strafford and Grant Honzik sets the Academy up well for next year's development.

Hartlepool FE dominated the early exchanges of possession and proved to be a physical side. After being held up short of the line, from the resulting scrum they Hartlepool number 8 picked up and powered over for the first score. Macmillan Academy needed some inspiration; HasanBaksh was the player to provide this with a dominant tackle which resulted in the ball being turned over. Through this turnover Macmillan counter attacked and fine handling allowed Grant Honzik the chance to coast over for their first try.

Macmillan now realised their potential and scored 24 unanswered points through another try from Hasan Baksh, Liam Davies and Sam Hopson who has only recently taken up the sport. To Hartlepool's credit they bounced back well and scored a well worked team try just before half time.

Macmillan raised the intensity further in the second half and displayed a good level of skill, team work and commitment to move the score on and take the victory for certain.

An outstanding display from both Josh Strafford and Liam Davies, both demonstrating ability to run with the ball and link well with others put Macmillan well and truly in the driving seat. Further tries from Josh Clough, Sam Ferguson, Grant Honzik and Josh Strafford resulted in a much needed performance.
