The Academy now has its very own Weather Station, as part of our on-going commitment as a Climate Change Lead School.

Those of you whose classrooms face the Saltholme Room will be able to see that a new structure has appeared on the roof in the last week.It is our very own weather station, supplied to us by Northumbrian Water and GLOBE, as part of our on-going commitment as a Climate Change Lead School (CCLS) in the North East.

Mrs Campbell and student representatives from the Academy took part in a training day with weather experts from various organisations supporting the event. As part of our commitment to CCLS, we were asked to become involved in weather monitoring for our local area.

Wind speed, direction, precipitation, sunlight hours and air pressure will be collected automatically and will be able to be seen throughout the Academy via our website. GLOBE also have their own website which will allow other participating schools, internationally spread around 200 countries, to observe our weather data collection in Middlesbrough!

In addition to us being able to forecast our own weather, the data can be used as a 'live' resource for lessons. Data collected over a period of time will allow us to make long term predictions in the future, and support our work as a Climate Change Lead School and also help us complete The Adaptation Challenge project, set by them.

Watch this space for our very own Academy weather reports, and check out the GLOBE website for international weather news from other schools!
