Year Nine students have been involved in an exciting cross-curricular project which enabled them to work collaboratively to explore the principles of the wind turbine.

On Thursday 14th October, 40 Year 9 students worked with a representative of the Smallpiece Trust on a project that brought together elements of Science, Technology. Engineering and Maths.

The challenge was to work in teams to design and construct a wind turbine. Students had to consider the best way of producing electricity for the least money and at the end of the event they had the opportunity to present their product to an audience.

Not only did the winning team receive prizes on the day but a group of students will also be representing the Academy at an event at Durham University in January.
