Year 8 students have recently participated in a successful Design Technology day which contributes to their Baccalaureate programme.

Year 8 students have recently participated in a successful Design Technology day which contributes to the Key Stage 3 Baccalaureate programme.

The challenge was to produce a model stadium fit for the 2012 Olympics, considering many aspects of construction including; location, materials, environment, economy, employment, energy and sustainability.

All students worked extremely hard throughout the day and combined a variety of skills and knowledge in true collaboration to produce a product outcome. Cross curricular themes were also evident from economic considerations of costs and income to calculations of dimensions and purchasing. Students also used a range of practical skills and the day culminated in a verbal presentation to an audience.

Each tutor group elected a class winner to enter the grand finale which was judged by senior staff. The overall winner was 8CLO led by Miss S Thomson with 'The Stadium of Life' being judged the most effective model and most confident presentation.

Well done to Year 8 for an outstanding performance throughout the day.
