The Year 9 Boys football team played High Tunstall in the second round of the ESFA National Cup on Friday 8th October. They were expecting a tough game following last year's encounter with a particularly impressive High Tunstall team who knocked Macmillan out of the competition with a convincing 4 - 1 defeat. However, the Macmillan boys were undaunted and proved themselves more than worthy opposition, showing strength in battling for the ball and working confidently as a team.

Macmillan Academy went 1 - 0 up after eight minutes when, from a training ground corner move, Harry Withers found space at the back post and struck the ball sweetly into the bottom corner. High Tunstall fought back with determination, drawing level two minutes later but the Macmillan boys defended with spirit and Jack Hanlon cleared two off the line while Cameron Dale made some impressive saves. The team looked good attacking and at times threatened to take the lead with shots from both inside and outside the box. As the game moved into extra time, the pace of the match was beginning to take its toll on the team but nonetheless they showed great character with a united defence and by hitting High Tunstall on the break. With only two minutes to go Charlie Eddon latched on to a loose ball in the box and smashed it into the top corner. High Tunstall pressed for the equaliser but Macmillan did not relent and now progress to meet Walker Technology College in the next round.
