The academy is celebrating after two of our students achieved success by winning a competition to design a stamp for the 2012 London Olympics.

Two Macmillan Academy students have achieved success by winning a competition to design an Olympic Stamp.

Back in 2009, invitations were sent out to schools in the North East, inviting students to submit their ideas for an Olympic Stamp, with the London 2012 Games in mind.

The competition was divided into four age groups and over 500 entries were received by organisers NEPA (The North of England Philatelic Association).

Congratulations to Jessica Temple (11AKI) who was the winner in age group C and to Alysha Ali, who was runner-up in the same category. They attended an awards presentation at the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle on Saturday 25th September hosted by Michael Wolff, an internationally renowned designer and stamp design expert. He commented that many of the designs would not be out of place with the professional designers who submit work to the Royal Mail Stamp Advisory Committee.
