Macmillan reached the last 16 of the national cup with a hard-fought victory over their neighbours Trinity College (former Newlands and St Davids combined).

The game was played on a heavy Trinity pitch and the visitors started the better, without creating a great deal. Macmillan deservedly took the lead when Nathan Lowe hit a free kick from 30 yards out which flew into the top corner of the net.

Macmillan then had a number of chances to double their lead with Liam Lonsdale and Alfie Kay both coming close. They did eventually increase their lead when the impressive Alfie Kay nut megged the full back before pulling the ball back to Liam Lonsdale who prodded the ball home.

The second half was a much more even affair with Trinity much more in the game. However, Macmillan defended really well and although the home side had more of the ball they struggled to create any real chances.

Macmillan, on the counter attack also had a number of opportunities to make the game safe but failed to do so and it led to a slightly nervy finale, but the lads held on to go into the hat for the next round.

A strong team performance with both Alfie Kay and Sam McManus sharing the man of the match accolade.
