Macmillan Academy is supporting the Europe-wide 'Safer Internet Week' initiative from Monday 8th - Friday 12th February with Key Stage 3 and 4 students being involved in a range of activities to inform them of the dangers posed by the internet and in particular, the use of social networking sites.

The theme for 2010 is: 'Think before you post' and there will be activities taking place across the continent lead by The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre who have provided schools, youth workers and child protection specialists with ideas and resources.

Safer Internet Day also sees the launch of a public awareness campaign from the UK Council for Child Internet Safety. The Click Clever, Click Safe campaign highlights a new online 'green cross code' - Zip it, Block it, Flag it. The code outlines behaviour that allows young people to enjoy the internet safely.
