Produce grown in the Academy's Eco-garden has won prizes in every category entered at the 'Town Meal' event, organised by Middlesbrough Environment City.

The success of Mrs Campbell's 'Growing for Gold' enrichment has lead to the Academy being judged a 'Highly Commended Secondary School/College'. Students were presented with a 'Community Environment Award' by Mrs Boyle, a representative from MEC, in our Eco-garden.

The produce entered into the competition was judged by the Women's Institute. The 'Growing for Gold' team were delighted with 1st prize for their sweetcorn, 2nd prize for both pumpkin and potatoes, and 3rd for their cherry tomatoes. Year 8 student, Nour Al-miaari said that she was "really proud" of the group's achievements and Mrs Boyle praised their commitment and effort.

The 'Town Meal' event brought together all of the different community growing groups and their produce was cooked into a meal which fed approximately 2,000 people and attracted 15,000 to the event.

The 'Growing for Gold' team will be tidying up and preparing the garden for the onset of winter over the coming weeks, but are already looking forward to growing next year's entries!
