The Library and English department have teamed up to run the national 'Booked up' scheme, allowing every Year 7 student to choose a free book from a selection specially chosen for their age-group.

'Booked up' is a national scheme to promote reading for pleasure. The idea is to ensure that every child receives a free book of their own to take home and keep. It's important that the students enjoy the book they choose so it would be great if parents could discuss the titles available with their child to help them think about which book they might like best.

There is a display of all the titles in the library (as shown in the photo with James 7CLO and Abass 7JYS) and a copy of each book for the students to browse through. They will be asked to make their selection soon in their English class. The books will arrive mid-late November. For more information, go to www.bookedup.org.uk

A swap-shop will be created later on to give students the opportunity to read the other titles in the list, which are:

  • Desirable by Frank Cotterell Boyce
  • Flood Child by Emily Diamond
  • Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos
  • Once by Morris Gleitzman
  • Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
  • Underworld by Catherine MacPhail
  • An Urgent Message of Wowness by Karen McCombie
  • How Loud Can You Burp? By Glenn Murphey
  • Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan
  • Read Me Out Loud! By Nick Toczel & Paul Cookson
  • WOW! 366 Short Story Collection
  • Blood Hunters by Steve Voake
