Making the most of our fantastic climbing wall, the Academy's Outdoor Education team held its first ever climbing competition on Wednesday 13th May.

This event was well attended, with student guests from both Stockton Riverside College and Darlington College, in addition to our own Post-16 climbers.

Competitors had one hour to score as many points as they could. Points were awarded for successfully completing a route of a certain grade, the harder the route, the higher the score. This lead to a range of tactics being adopted in an attempt to obtain the highest score possible and the result was not clear until all the scores had been collated.

All the participants set a very high standard from the start and kept pushing right until the end. The last five minutes saw a frantic rush with everyone giving it their all in order to maximise their score.

Mr. Marlowe would like to thank all the members of staff who helped with the organisation and the running of the event. He hopes that both they and all the students who took part are looking forward to the next competition!
