It has been an exciting and challenging season for Macmillan's Under-16 Hockey team, who have played fifteen matches and three tournaments. The team has consisted of seven Year 11 students and five Year 10 students. They have been supported by a talented number of students from Year 9. The players have shown real dedication, giving up many hours to represent the Academy and their efforts have really paid off, with a record of ten wins, two draws and only three losses.

Unfortunately, despite being one of the favourites to win it, the date of the Under-16 County Tournament clashed with the Academy's Barcelona trip so a much reduced team was fielded for this; however, the team triumphed in style at the County Invitational Indoor Tournament, which was the first to be held. They won five matches and drew one making Macmillan the Champions.

The team also played in the National Plate Cup, reaching the last 32 in the Country and coming very close to causing a major upset before finally losing by the narrow margin, 2-1 to Bradford Girls Grammar School (away). A great win was recorded against The Kings School, Tynemouth in an earlier round of this competition.

The team has certainly put Macmillan Academy on the map and coach Mrs Weighell, has thoroughly enjoyed managing them. Their talents have not gone unnoticed elsewhere either, as ten of the team were selected to represent the District, seven were selected for the Tees Valley Development Squad and three represented the County. In addition, Becki Boyle and Katie West have recently been invited to attend North East England Trials.

At the Year 11& girls team sports leavers meal held at Joe Rigatonis, Becki Boyle was voted the Players' Player of throughout the five years; Helyma McCarten was voted the most improved player and Becki Pink was voted the player of the season.
