Macmillan Academy was pleased to be host to 9 different schools and 385 primary students for two days in March. The workshops were run by six different council-funded groups: Middlesbrough Climate Conservation, The National Wildlife Trust, RSPB North York Moors Trust, The Parkland Trust and Middlesbrough Environment City.

During the two days, thirteen of our students from Years 8, 9 and 10 delivered the workshops, with the aim of teaching other young people from Middlesbrough to live a more sustainable and environmentally healthy lifestyle.

The activities included; an experiment to show global warming in action, making beads from recycled paper, planting sunflower seeds and tasting different apple species from different countries, frog and toad activities, a recycling board game and identifying local otter, badger and vole tracks.

All of the primary school children who attended were given a bag of environmentally friendly stationery and 'Fairtrade' food and drinks.
