The Academy is supporting the WWF's Earth Hour, a global event taking place on Saturday 28th March 2009, between 8.30-9.30pm.

This initiative, which aims to be "the largest mass global action on climate change ever", is asking people, businesses and cities around the world to switch off their lights for one hour with the aim of sending a powerful signal to global leaders that they must take urgent action to tackle climate change.

Mr Cox, Head of Geography, explains, "We are committed to running our school in a more sustainable way in order to create a better future for all of us. As part of this commitment we are keen to encourage our students to take positive action. The Earth Hour is just one way in which they can do this. All they have to do is turn off all the lights in their home between 8.30 and 9.30 p.m on Saturday 28th March. We should all be thinking about what we can do to reduce the effects of Global Warming and this is a simple first step."
