Congratulations to the academy's hockey squads who have had excellent seasons, reaching impressive positions in their league and cup tournaments

Congratulations to both the academy's under-14 and under-16 hockey squads who have had excellent seasons, reaching impressive positions in their league and cup tournaments.

Under-16s:

The under-16s reached the last 32 of the National Schoolgirls Plate Cup, coming very close to reaching the last 16 in the country, before eventually losing 2-1 to Bradford Girls Grammar School, a renowned Hockey playing School. Team coach, Mrs Weighell described the team as 'brilliant but disappointed', after having had several chances but not having luck on their side.

Also, this week the under-16 team have reached the County League semi-finals. The girls have won their group stage, finishing ahead of impressive teams from Red House School and LJS. They are scheduled to play Ryehills School in the semi-final on Wed 18th March.

To add to the County League success, 9 of the squad played in the under-16 County Invitational indoor 6-a-side Tournament on Thursday last week. These girls WON, giving them the title of under-16 County Indoor Champions. They never lost a game in the tournament and recorded some great victories and Becki (captain) was the player of the Tournament. The team were Becki B, Helyma, Hannah, Becki M, Becki, P Rachel B, Rachel P, Katie and Jodie.

The Team have their County League semi-final and The Middlesbrough District Tournament still to play this season.

Under-14s:

The under-14 squad have been following a similar pattern, winning their County Indoor Tournament. The Macmillan girls won 5 matches and drew one in the whole of the tournament. Team-player, Jessica was player of the tournament, after scoring no less than 9 goals. The team, consisting of Kristy (captain), Lauren, Jess, Sarah, Jessica, Francesca and Jameela are now crowned County Indoor Champions at under-14 and under-16, which is an exceptional achievement!

The Under 14s have two more Tournaments to play this season, The County 11-a-side and the Middlesbrough District 11-a-side.

Well done to all the players who have shown commitment and enthusiasm throughout the season. Their success is highly deserved. Watch this space for how they get on in their next tournaments!
