Following the recent retirement of Mrs. Cane and Mrs. Sigsworth, Macmillan Academy now has an almost entirely new Parent Teacher Association Committee.

Handing over to the Principal a cheque for £14,500 as a contribution towards the new Academy minibus, Vice Charman Karen Shields praised the years of time and energy which the two ladies have devoted to serving the Academy in so many different ways.

In stressing that they would be sadly missed, Karen pledged that their good work will be carried on by the new group, one of whose first actions was to initiate the use of Fair Trade tea and coffee at all future PTA events and parent evenings. Secretary Kathryn Adams explained that, although it costs more than some other makes, the PTA has taken a conscious decision to contribute in a small way to the needs of the Third World.

Everyone who has tried the Fair Trade products to date has commented on how pleasing they are to the palate.

The PTA has also organised a Wine and Cheese and Quiz Evening for 17 October into which its AGM will be incorparated. There is no charge at all for the evening and all parents will be receiving written details next week and need only to complete and return the reply slip to come along.

Quizmaster for the night will be Mr Hargreaves.
