37 students from the Academy enjoyed a week-long ski visit to the Austrian Resort of Saalbach over half term. Students left Macmillan on Friday 13th February for their 27 hour coach journey, travelling through France, Belgium and Germany before arriving at the Hotel Nideregg in Saalbach. Unlike previous years, this year has seen a massive amount of fresh snow and while the group was there over 60cm fell in one day alone.

The students undertook 5 hours of lessons each day with Danish and Austrian Ski instructors, who taught them to snow plough and do parallel turns and how to get on and off the ski lifts safely. Each ski group participated in a race day with every student receiving a medal and certificate to show how far they had progressed during the week. There were 3 days of glorious sunshine and the views over the Alps were spectacular, allowing students to witness the most spectacular scenery.

In addition to the skiing, Macmillan students also involved themselves in some "apres ski", taking part in bowling, ice-skating, swimming, a beetle drive, bingo, and building snow sculptures of famous buildings. A fantastic week was had by all and everyone returned safely to Macmillan extremely tired but in good spirits!
