Macmillan Academy receives ‘The Outstanding Academy Award’ at Education Awards Ceremony in London.

Staff and students are delighted to have been awarded a prestigious award at the national Education Awards Ceremony held at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium. Mr McCallum, Deputy Principal was one of 250 guests at the event, which was sponsored by BT.

The Chairman of BT introduced the ceremony and introduced Philippa Forester (Children's BBC and Tomorrow's World), who presented the awards, which included the environmental building award, educational visits award, modern languages award and ICT innovation award amongst others.

These awards were won by some exceptionally good schools of all types, including primary, SEN and all types of secondary schools. Locally, Redcar Community College won the Art and Craft Award. High Tunstall College of Science in Hartlepool won the Science Award. The two final awards of the day and the two top awards were 'The Outstanding Progress Award' and 'The Outstanding Academy Award'.

Although senior staff at Macmillan were aware that we had been short-listed, it came as a surprise to Mr McCallum to hear that we had won "The Outstanding Academy Award" and he was delighted to collect it on behalf of the Academy. The applause he received, especially from the other short-listed academies (who are also recognised as top performing schools) is a mark of how highly Macmillan is regarded nationally. Two other local schools also won an award at the event. Redcar Community College won the Art and Craft Award and High Tunstall College, Hartlepool won the Science Award."
