Durham University postgraduates delivered their first ‘anthropology day’ here at the academy.

Durham University postgraduates delivered their first 'anthropology day' here at the academy in a bid to raise awareness of the discipline among school-pupils. It was run by 5 post-graduate students who are working towards masters degrees in this field.

Anthropology can be defined as, "the broad and holistic study of human beings on a global scale." It can include the study of living cultures around the world today (social anthropology) and the study of human and non-human primates (biological anthropology).

In addition to explaining what it is, the Durham students helped the Year 10s get a better understanding of why anthropology is so important and what a degree in anthropology could lead to.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the day and covered a number of areas from class and gender, globalisation, aborigines and even got to plan a new village which was devastated by a tsunami.
