Students in Year 8 have been finding out more about the lives of children their age in Africa due to their generous sponsorship of 12 year old child from Ethiopia.

Last year, through a charity called World Vision, the students donated over 200 pounds to sponsor a child and his community for a year. Since then, the students have received letters from him telling them about himself and his life in Ethiopia. He would love to be a teacher but has so far not had the privilege of regular education, due to lack of funding in his community. Through the help of Year 8 students, he has received clothing and can see improved school facilities as well as medical supplies and agricultural skills training for his community in order to help them help themselves.

Mrs Barrett, Head of Year 8 and sponsorship organiser, said, "The students have made a significant difference already to the child's life and will have for another year. It is hoped that they will give just as generously as last year so that we can continue this worthwhile cause." It is hoped that other Year groups may also get involved.

With Christmas in mind, if you would like to help make a difference to more lives, World Vision have a range of alternative gifts that you can browse on www.greatgifts.org.
