Two Match reports from Mr. Coates. Year 10 take on Blyth in the ESFA Cup and our Year 9 boys take on King's Manor.

Y10 v Blyth Community College (Home) ESFA Cup - Round 2 15th October 2008

Macmillan progressed to round three of the ESFA cup after a very impressive 5-1 victory over an unbeaten Blyth Community College.

Due to a number of players being unavailable, six Y9 players were included in the starting team and after conceding an early goal, it looked like it was going to be a long evening. However, the lads responded extremely positively and were soon level when Nathan Lowe converted a penalty after being shoved in the box.

This gave Macmillan a great boost and they began to look like a team full of confidence. Lowe then gave the hosts the lead with a cool finish, and soon earned a hat-trick when he blasted a 25 yard free kick straight into the top corner to make it 3-1 at the interval.

Blyth came out in the second half with much more determination, but thanks to some excellent saves from Andy Horkan, Macmillan maintained their two goal lead. Macmillan then hit the visitors on the break when Josh Strafford burst forward before calmly placing the ball past the oncoming keeper.

At 4-1 the game was more or less over as a contest and Adam Lane then hit a thunderbolt into the top corner to make it 5-1, sending Mr Coates into dreamland.

To their credit, the visitors never gave up, but this was a fantastic display from the hosts and on reflection was probably their best ever performance. Strafford and Lowe earned the man of the match awards.

Macmillan Line Up: Horkan, Crocket, McManus, Shelmani (capt), G.Stubley, Gibbon, Strafford, Loft, Lane, Lowe, O.Hussain, Z.Khan, Diedrick, Mains, J.Ahmed

Y9 v King’s Manor (a) Town Cup - Round 1
14th October 2008

Macmillan continued their unbeaten start to the season when they recorded a 6-2 victory over a hard working King’s Manor side.

Nathan Lowe continued his recent purple patch when his 25 yard free kick somehow went straight in without anybody touching it. He doubled his tally with a thunderbolt of a shot past the impressive King’s Manor goalkeeper.

Lowe then turned provider when he put Liam Hogg in to a 1v1 situation to make it 3-0. However, just before the interval, King’s Manor scored a screamer from 25 yard to get them back in the game.

Macmillan were very slow to start the second half and the home side were very much in the ascendancy. They were rewarded for their tenacity when they pulled another goal back to make it 3-2 and give them real hope of salvaging something from the game.

Macmillan responded positively and upped their tempo and soon regained their two goal cushion when Hogg finished off a great team move. Lowe then earned another hat-trick with an outstanding piece of skill when lofting the ball over the keeper from what appeared to be an impossible angle.

At 5-2 changes were made and Macmillan began to play some great football and it should have been 6-2 when Carl Robinson failed to convert a penalty. However, Robinson was not to be denied and he did eventually score when he blasted the ball home from the edge of the penalty area. Lowe and Hogg were both outstanding for visitors.

Macmillan Line Up: Hodgson, Crocket, McManus, Lam, G.Stubley, Collin, Robinson, Loft, Hogg, Lowe, Bowen, Kay, Wales, Gowland,
