We were delighted to welcome Catherine Dougherty, the schools liaison officer from King’s College, Cambridge to the Academy on 17th September. Catherine ran two sessions for students in Years 11, 12 and 13 who have expressed an interest in applying to Oxford or Cambridge Universities.

The first (and very entertaining) session was aimed at students in Years 11 and 12 and focused on the structure of the university (and its similarities with Harry Potter), how you study, what sort of facilities are available and dealt with questions about finance and leisure activities.

The second session was designed for students in Year 13 who are currently in the process of applying to either Oxford or Cambridge and looked at how to write a quality personal statement and what to do when the interviewer asks you that impossible question. Both sessions were extremely interesting, humorous and very useful and students left brimming with enthusiasm and we can’t wait for more opportunities to work with King’s College in the future.
