The Academy is delighted to announce that Kylie Mautenyane, a Year 10 Student has been selected to appear in the BBC series Serious Andes this summer.



The Academy is delighted to announce that Kylie Mautenyane, a Year 10 Student has been selected to appear in the BBC series Serious Andes this summer. Kylie was one of the 35,000 students who auditioned for the show and will join another 7 pupils from around the country (aged 12-15) for the show which will give the pupils an unique three week experience in Ecuador.
 
Macmillan Academy was one of 25 schools chosen from across the UK to take part in the auditions, and 120 pupils were selected for a national audition, a group of 16 were selected, and spent a week in Keswick, climbing mountains, zip wiring and swimming. A final 8 were selected after this. 
 
The show, which will be broadcast in the Autumn will take the students to the spectacular ‘Avenue of Volcanoes’ in the Ecuadorian mountains, and work on a conservation project to help the endangered spectacled bears by building a pre release enclosure for the animals. Kylie will also undertake horse riding, hiking and mountain climbing during the three weeks.
 
Kylie is the only person in the north of England selected, which makes her achievement even more amazing, and one which the Academy is very proud of.
