Macmillan’s very first surfing trip was held only a few weeks ago and was well attended by students from all Years. Mr Marlowe and Mr McDowell accompanied the students to Saltburn, where the students received two hours of quality surf instruction from Saltburn Surf School. The waves were a perfect 1-2 feet with a light off-shore breeze, which made for perfect conditions for our keen new surfing elite!

Jordan Howes, Amy Tinkler, Laura Wilks and Rachael Bollands took to the waves eagerly and within an impressive two hours, found themselves standing up riding waves. Floriana Dezou, Bethany Hughes, Steven Alexander and Sophie Whisson also had a fantastic time catching the waves (occasionally managing to get to their feet as well!)

The following week saw the Rugby Academy taking to the surf in much bigger waves. This trip was a reward for what has been a very successful season for the team with Callum Campbell and Aaron Scott finding their feet in the rough conditions very well. This success has been followed up by some of the team who have become regulars down at the beach waiting for the perfect wave!

The surfing enrichment will be running again from September before the water gets too cold! Come and see Mr Marlowe to get signed up.
