A team of innovative and creative students from the Academy have won Teesside University’s ‘WebComp08’.  This was the University’s School of Computing first ever website competition sponsored by Microsoft, the world’s largest software company.

The theme of the competition was Improving Education and the winning design was judged to be the most exciting, original and innovative of all the entries.  The Macmillan team, consisting of Craig Thompson (Y13), Nikki Heron (Y13), Aidan Loughran (Y12) and Shaun Owen (Y12) with the support of Mr King, decided to create a website on Networking Principles which is part of the syllabus for A Level Computing.  To make the site more innovative the group decided to create interactive quizzes to test the visitors’ knowledge as they worked through the site.

The students met regularly after school and worked many long hours to get the final product complete.  The students showed great dedication in completing the product to the tight timescale, all of which was done during a busy time of year with final year project deadlines looming.

The winning prize is £1000 cash which was presented to the students on Monday 16th June. Each student will receive a £250 share of the prize to spend as they like.
