Year 12 and 13 Literature students enjoyed a visit to the famous Beamish open air museum on Thursday 24th April, where they spent the day finding out about what life was like in North East England between 1825-1913.

The purpose of the visit was to develop the students’ understanding of the context of two of their set A-Level texts; Charles Dicken’s, ‘Hard Times’ and Elizabeth Gaskell’s, ‘North and South’

The students’ visit was enhanced by a being taken on a tour by one of the museum’s education officers, who made links between what was shown and how these were represented in the novels.
