During the Easter break, 32 students and 4 members of the P.E. staff went to Holland for a football and hockey tour. They left on 7th April and travelled by coach and ferry to Vaulkenberg, where they stayed in the Walrum Hotel.

During the Easter break, 32 students and 4 members of the P.E. staff went to Holland for a football and hockey tour.  They left on 7th April and travelled by coach and ferry to Vaulkenberg, where they stayed in the Walrum Hotel. 

For both the Y9/10 girls' hockey squad and the Y8 boys' football squad, there were daily two-hour training sessions and games against Dutch teams.  The boys also enjoyed participating in a tournament towards the end of the week, in which they won every game.   The girls experienced their own victory when they beat a very strong Dutch side, which is a first for Macmillan.  Players of the week were Rebecca Boyle and Sam McManus.

In addition to the sports, the students went to a pancake house and had delicious pancakes, went bowling and went on a toboggan ride.  There was also a disco on the last night.
The most memorable moment for Miss Braithwaite was at the disco when our Year 8 boys (who aren't dancers) had a 'dance off' with some boys from a London school (who could clearly dance!).   She explained, "It was very funny, there was a lot of side stepping going on from our boys," adding that, "At the end of the night almost every student at the disco danced to Soldier Boy, they were all in rows doing the same dance, it was very good to watch, like something out of an American movie."

Teachers who went on the trip were very impressed by both the behaviour and performance of the students and are thoroughly looking forward to the next tour.
