On Friday 7th March, 12 Year 10 Health and Social Care students, accompanied by Mrs. Tickner, attended a 'Challenge Day' at James Cook University Hospital.  The morning consisted of 6 short sessions in which students had the opportunity to meet a range of healthcare professionals including a midwife, a disability supporter, a child care worker, a ‘skills for care’ group worker, a dietician and a network manager.

After lunch, students were given four different challenges.  The first was to prepare a health-care quiz, the second to make a piece of clothing and equipment for a health professional, thirdly to produce a story board for a health crisis and finally to make a body map showing careers and the qualities that are required for them.

The Macmillan students worked very well and as well as getting insight into the work of a range of hospital staff, they developed their collaborative and communication skills and thoroughly enjoyed their day.
